Juggling different ages

How do you juggle activities for different ages of children? For example, my 9 & 6 year old wanted to go sledding today, but it was too cold & windy for my 16 month old to go.

My two oldest were 6 and 9 when their sister was born, so I've been in your shoes many times. For something like sledding (or the pool) I always found it was easier to share the job with another parent in a similar situation. One of us would take the little ones and play in the snow or just stay inside and warm, and one would take the older kids out to play. You can even swap in the middle so both moms get a chance with each group. I know this only works if you have a mom to team up with, though. But I will say my kids have done more than their share of things at twilight or in the dark once dad came home to help out. What's important is being together and doing something as a family, not necessarily the when.
