ADT purchased 300 backpacks for students, and donated $20,000 to the Signal 13 Foundation, which supports Baltimore City Police with financial hardship grants and college scholarships. The event was held at 2900 Liberty Heights Avenue.

The backpacks will be given to food insecure elementary and middle school students with an emphasis on helping children who are homeless.

The annual fundraiser, attended by about 120 guests, celebrates the old tradition of East Baltimore Polish-American families who traveled together in the summertime to farms in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Delaware to pick green beans and other vegetables. The dancing followed a dinner of string bean soup, fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes and eclairs, with a late snack of fried bologna sandwiches offered at the end.

CURE high school students are learning about oral health and dentistry through the University of Maryland School of Dentistry’s (UMSOD) weeklong Planet Smilez Camp. Canady has been in the University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB) CURE Scholars Program since 6th grade. Pawlak is a 2019 graduate of UMSOD and founded Planet Smilez in 2015. She returns to run the camp and “serve the community that made me a dentist.”

Elmer A. Henderson: A Johns Hopkins Partnership School holds a ribbon cutting for their ground mural project at the entrance to the school. During two and a half weeks multidisciplinary artist Jordan Lawson worked with over 250 kids in the school's summer camps and people at the school community day to complete the mural. The young people painted a green colored section of the mural. Lawson used ideas and designs from the students for inspiration. The theme of the work is hope, integration and inspiration.  Arts Every Day, a nonprofit, sponsored the project.

Broadway from the deck of the Maryland Dove, a 40 ton 2-masted pinnacle ship which is the floating ambassador of Historic St. Mary's City.  It's a representation of the original Dove, one of 2 ships (along with the Ark) that began the Maryland colony.  Mr. Bramos is dressed as a deckhand from 1634. The ship is visiting Fells Point until Thursday, and free tours are available from 10-5 on Wednesday and 10-1 on Thursday of this week.

Robert Ford of Baltimore, a re-enactor dressed as a Sgt. Major in the 54th Massachusetts Voluntary Infantry Regiment, one of the first Black regiments to serve in the US Civil War, speaks at the unveiling of two murals at the Avenue Bakery in Druid Heights, called “Freedom Found Its Voice!” The murals, designed by multimedia artist Stuart Hudgins, pay tribute to the contributions of Black troops in the Civil War. After the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, Baltimore quickly raised two Black fighting regiments. The US Colored Troops (USCT) were trained at Camp Belger, located at Madison and North Avenue.
