Baby Broadwater has treated me to plenty of twisting and stretching and kicking recently — and I absolutely love it. They are subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) reminders of her presence. (I am getting the impression that she is getting bored in there, but that’s just my guess.)
This week, however, I believe we had our first dialogue of sorts.
It occurred after the following pieces of furniture were delivered (yay!):
There were some bits of styrofoam and dust left from the packaging, so I decided to do a quick run with the vacuum. The moment I turned it on, she pushed out HARD (legs? arms? both?) to both the right and left. I think the vacuum startled her! She was not pleased. I finished quickly and she relaxed again.
But then I noticed I’d missed a spot. The moment the vacuum started up again, I got the same instant reaction from Baby Broadwater. For the first time, she was telling me loud and clear that she didn’t like that noise. (I think.)
I felt a little guilty to have startled her, but the experience was fascinating nonetheless. I have since apologized to baby for the ordeal and used the incident as justification for passing off all vacuuming duties to Luke.
Follow-up note: the hair dryer does not have the same effect.
