What was once known as the Towson Y Preschool now has a new location and a new name.
Known as the Y Journeys Early Childhood Development Center in Towson, it moved from the Towson Family Center Y to its new facility on the corner of Bosley and W. Chesapeake late last fall.
The move is part of a series of initiatives the Y is undertaking to fulfill its long-term strategic plan, which calls for improved and expanded Y resources for families and children in Maryland.
The new center is in a building renovated and leased by Obrect Properties. It has six classrooms with the capacity of 78 children ages 2 to 5. When it opened, 59 children made the move from the old center, according to Sara Millstein, chief marketing officer for the Y of Central Maryland.
“This beautifully designed center is a fitting environment for the families and children we serve in the greater Towson community,” said John Hoey, president and CEO of the Y of Central Maryland. “It provides the proper setting and resources needed for young children to learn in a supportive environment, one that is fully focused on preparing them to succeed in school.”
The program focuses on the development and educational needs of young children, with an emphasis on school-readiness and character-building values such as caring, honesty and responsibility, according to a press release.
All of the youth development programs at the Y, including the development centers and camps, have been branded as “Y Journeys,” according to Millstein.
The new school operates from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and tuition ranges from $140 to $190 per week depending on the age of the child and whether they stay a half- or full-day. For details, visit www.ymaryland.com.
