Baltimore Boat Show has plenty for families this weekend

Betsy Stein | 01/18/12

The Baltimore Boat Show offers plenty of family activities this weekend at the Baltimore Convention Center from climbing on boats to frolicking with Captain Jack Sparrow.

And while the kids are entertained tying knots and learning nautical trivia, parents have the chance to check out the newest boats, boating gear and accessories. The show will have everything from luxury yachts and family cruisers to fishing boats and personal watercraft. Dozens of exhibitors will offer the latest marine, fishing, and electronic accessories to outfit any boat and excursion on the water.

There will be contests and children’s activities throughout the show, including a crab picking contest and nautical trivia challenge. In the Powerboat Docking Challenge, contestants will compete against the clock to safely dock a remote-controlled boat. And fishing, boating, and sailing seminars will be offered, including a new two-day boating safety course.

Other children’s activities include:

The Welcome to the Water coloring contest allows little ones to show off their creative skills. All pictures will be on display throughout the show.

The Baltimore Orioles’ Bird, Pirates of the Caribbean’s Jack Sparrow and crew impersonators, and Aang from The Last Air Bender will stop by the show, and visitors can pose for photos.

Kids who aren’t afraid to walk the plank can enjoy story time with Blackbeard the Pirate.

Interactive games like the new Boat Show Bingo and Scavenger Hunt will keep the family entertained all day. Prizes will be given daily.
