Earlier this month when we were getting pummeled with snow, the plows did a really good job. Last weekend, we even had a set of Bobcats in our neighborhood widening the road to its normal width.
But as of last Monday, the plows and Bobcats disappeared. And while my neighborhood is in great shape, many of the roads out there aren’t. Many highly used side streets are still only one lane. Main roads still have no room for parking. And forget about the sidewalks in most areas.
Traveling on a secondary road last Thursday, I almost had a head-on collision with a fire engine because the road was only wide enough for one vehicle. I had to wedge myself into a snow bank to avoid the speeding fire tuck.
A friend told me that the kids walking to school on her road — a busy secondary — have to balance on top of snow mounds to get to the bus stop. The cars speeding by were blaring their horns at the kids who were braving walking in the road. It’s a disaster waiting to happened, she said.
Why did the plows call it a day when there’s still so much to be done? Am I the only one wondering what’s up with this?
