Another baby sitatunga was born at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore earlier this month.
Lela, which means “dark-haired beauty” in Swahili was born Nov. 1 and weighed 11 pounds. Her parents are Jahari and Joanie, who has given birth to two other calves at the zoo in the past few years.
The baby is strong and healthy and is beginning to explore the exhibit with her mother, according to a press release. Zoo visitors will be able to see Joanie and Lela in the next week or so — weather permitting — along with the rest of the heard.
