SafetyTat - Why didn’t I think of that?

Sparks mom Michele Welsh took one step inside Hersheypark and panicked. In front of her was a sea of people. Beside her were her three children — all under the age of 5 — ready to take off and have fun.

“I reached in my purse, grabbed a pen and wrote my cell phone on each one’s arm; if we got separated, people would know how to get them back to me,” she remembers.

As the day wore on, she had to rewrite the numbers several times due to sweating and water attractions, but it gave her peace of mind. It also prompted quite a few remarks from other parents at the park.

“People would stop us and say, ‘Is that your cell phone number? That’s a great idea,’” she says.

Driving home that night, Welsh, a graphic designer, formulated a plan and today, SafetyTat — a temporary safety tattoo customized with a parent’s mobile phone number — is on the market.

“We provide a fun ‘just in case’ solution for parents with small children,” Welsh said in an e-mail. “Parents love the peace of mind. Kids are crazy about the temporary tattoos.”

Tattoos are available with pre-printed phone numbers or you can write a number in depending on the situation. Designs vary to appeal to young children all the way up to tweens.
