A local mom has started a business she hopes will put an end to children’s nightmares.

Karen Varelli, a Cockeysville mother of three, recently started the business Head Cases, which sells a Good Dream Pillow.

“This pillow gives children the confidence to go to sleep knowing they will only have good dreams,” Varelli said. “My inspiration came from my 9-year-old son.”

When her son was 2, he was afraid to go to sleep because he might have a bad dream, she explained. At first she would tell him to turn his pillow over to the good dream side. After a while, she bought a pillowcase and wrote “Good Dream Side” on it and let him decorate it. He still sleeps on the pillow every night, she said.

Now she has turned the idea into a business selling cutely decorated pillows with “Good Dream Side” written on them. She also has a number of other ideas for down the road including a tooth fairy pillow, monster spray and a monster blanket/shield.
