According to the University of Illinois’ Clearinghouse on Early Education and Parenting, the following are the top reasons for separating twins in school:
1 Classmates and teachers frequently compare the twins, which can be detrimental to the “less skilled” twin.
2 Twins may cause behavioral disruptions to their classmates, if one twin tends to distract the other or “mothers” the other.
3 Constantly being together may hinder the development of social skills.
4 Twins previously placed together in class seem secure and ready for the separation.
4 reasons for keeping twins together in school:
1 Twins are already experiencing a separation from their parents when they enter school and separating them from one another at the same time can be traumatic.
2 Emotionally upsetting events recently occurred at home.
3 Parents or the twins themselves feel strongly about same-classroom placement.
4 Only one classroom is available.
