Burgers, dogs and fries done right
Summer is about keeping it simple. Especially when it comes to mealtime.
Burger Bros., located in the heart of Towson, has put together a simple menu with combinations to please most palates — especially the younger ones — something my beau, his two girls and I discovered recently.
Burgers, chicken, dogs. Salads, wings, spuds and onion rings. Sodas, fresh lemonade, fruit punch. All for down-to-earth prices: burgers average $4.99; chicken breasts are $5.29; dogs (with Vienna all-beef natural casing, no less) are $2.85; salads range from $4.95 to $5.79; and wings start at $6.99 for 10.
The honey bourbon wings appealed to 7-year-old Elisabeth, while Mary, 10, went for an order of both hot and traditional wings. I had a turkey burger with pepper jack cheese and Roger chose a bacon cheeseburger and Caesar salad. There’s a plethora of toppings to go on the “hams and hots” (as burgers and dogs are called in my native New Jersey) from blue cheese to 1,000 island to caramelized onions to chili.
We ordered a large size of the hand-cut Idaho fries. The girls had never dipped spuds in vinegar but for the two who love all things sour, they found the pairing to be “yummy.”
The biggest hit, however, was the bottled Boylan soda. Elisabeth loved the novelty of drinking root beer from a glass bottle and Mary said her orange cream was “extremely marvelous.”
We took advantage of the quiet Sunday summer night and had our meals on tables outside. Our server, Katie, couldn’t have been more accommodating, even when it required several trips inside and out.
We had planned to go across the street and get an ice cream cone, but we were full. Simple as that.
